CAD - Then and Now

CAD - it was novel when I was in college, and I honestly felt like some kind of king when I was asked to teach a CAD class at my own university straight out of college. I was 14 when I began 2D drawing using pencil and paper - super traditional. At 18, I was on to CAD (Computer-Aided Design), creating 2D and 3D drawings. At 21, I was an Adjunct Professor at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University! Super nerd, and super proud still.

Today, CAD is taught to students as young as high school. In my own local high school districts neighboring me, there are several students taking college classes at their high schools. How do I know this? My wife actually works with these kids, and helps them sign up for free college credit through her campus. Kids these days have so much opportunity to explore various pathways, and to get really skilled at programs if they begin young. Basically, my kids have no choice but to get super involved - no pressure. Who knows? Maybe I'll even get to be their CAD teacher when that magical day comes!
